History

Catherine Massey had been contemplating an Internet-based legal secretarial service since the early 1990s as an extension of her traditional legal secretarial temporary agency, Legal Resources. It wasn't until 2000 that she felt Internet technology was sufficiently secure to enable attorneys to feel confident using a "virtual" legal secretarial service.

Ms. Massey asked Sharon Quaintance to develop a business plan and design the technology -- the two cofounders were off and running! A limited market test was conducted in October 2000. Based on user feedback and Ms. Massey's knowledge of attorneys' secretarial needs, Ms. Quaintance modified the technology platform using industry leading document management software by iManage.

LawDocsXpress (LDX) officially began operations on Jan. 1, 2001. Ms. Quaintance designed and ran all operational aspects of LDX. Ms. Massey screened and selected the secretarial personnel, provided sales leads and market expertise. As LDX began to expand rapidly in mid-2003, Ms. Massey began migrating her existing on-site temporary secretarial services to LDX.

Today, Ms. Massey is responsible for staffing, production management and chairing the LDX Board of Advisors. Ms. Quaintance continues to focus on LDX business development, sales and marketing, technology and finance.

HIGHLIGHTS:

May 2002 Women in Technology (WIT) section of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) selected LDX as its first "Woman Launch" company.

Oct. 2002 LDX filed two patent applications on its unique technology and processes.

Dec. 2002 Sharon Quaintance nominated for WIT "Woman of the Year in Technology" Award.

Aug. 2003 LDX selected as first outsourcing service for legal secretarial work by a state Attorney General's office.

Nov. 2003 LDX and American Business Institute (AmBusi) enter a Strategic Alliance to provide a discount to its small law firm members.
