Reducing Overtime

Challenge:

Fish & Richardson LLP was experiencing consistently high levels of overtime in certain technology-intensive geographic markets.  Existing staff members were beginning to feel the pressure of constant requests for overtime. While the firm generated enough work to justify hiring additional staff members, the firm could not find intellectual property (IP) staff with the necessary skills and experience.  Additionally, the shortage of qualified IP staff in these technology-intensive markets was increasing salaries to uneconomic levels.  Finally, the firm wanted to gradually reduce and eventually eliminate overtime to alleviate staff pressure as well as reduce expenses.

Solution:

Since it operates virtually and draws from a nationwide labor pool, LawDocsXpress was able to provide Fish & Richardson with consistent, qualified IP support staff.   In addition, as LawDocsXpress operates 24x7x365, it could reduce the pressure driving staff overtime.

Impact:

The availability of qualified IP personnel eased the need for immediate staff additions from a limited and costly labor pool.  As the firm only paid for LawDocsXpress’ services when needed, it was an extremely cost effective alternative to overtime and enabled assistance with special projects on an on-going basis.
