With 26 offices, an AMLAW 100 law firm had varying levels of word processing support in its different offices. Several small offices had no onsite support, while others had staffed for peak-period levels of workflow. An overall imbalance of word processing support across the office locations made improving overall legal word processing efficiency a priority. The firm needed to boost efficiency by consolidating word processing in certain locations while simultaneously increasing support to its underserved offices. In addition, the firm wanted specific support for some of its high-volume attorneys, who often needed work completed after hours or on weekends. Additionally, the firm made a conscious, strategic decision to seek out an onshore solution.
After a detailed Request for Proposal (RFP) process, LawDocsXpress was chosen to help the firm develop a plan of action to balance out and streamline the system of word processing support. In offices with word processing it was determined LawDocsXpress would provide overflow support while in other offices high-volume attorneys would send work directly to LawDocsXpress, which would assign them the same legal support staff members consistently. Over time, the firm reduced word processing staff levels to match normal rather than peak workloads, and LawDocsXpress tailored its support accordingly.
The implementation of LawDocsXpress’ services throughout the firm resulted in a streamlining of the word processing group. The firm was able to staff for normal output levels, while still achieving the same timely, high-quality results during peak periods, after hours and on weekends. Overall, the firm benefitted from a significant reduction in expenses net of outsourcing costs and the quality of support work improved overall.
